The traditional orangerie was a structure built on the grounds of a fashionable residence that provided a warm, sunny environment for citrus and other fruit trees during the winter months. It may be thought of as an elegant greenhouse. Some especially lovely examples may be found at Kensington Palace, London; Peterhof Palace, St Petersburg; and the Palace of Versailles outside Paris.

But we’d like to offer a different consideration of the word, the message of a color. Our first two pieces of 2023 celebrate the warmth and brightness of orange: a classic shirtwaist in a rich, sunny linen plaid and a floral print party skirt in tangerine strewn with ivory blossoms.
